The Future

Despite all the good work going on at the club, the state of the building is jeopardising it's future. The building is in need of multiple repairs including a new roof, new recreation hall floor and disabled access. The cost of the refurbishment will come to around £700,000.

Commitment within the club is strong. Rather than accepting what some would see as inevitable, the trustees and volunteers have developed “Focus”.

“Focus” is a strategy aimed at securing funding to redevelop the building for the use of the whole of the community and secure its long-term sustainability.

The club also hope to purchase the waste ground adjacent, turning an eyesore into an outdoor play area. The basement will continue to house the youth club as well as a new community café. The ground floor, currently the recreation hall, will continue to be used for sports as well as being modified to accommodate meetings and conferences. The new floor will include club offices, multipurpose resource rooms and rentable office space.

A range of available information has been utilised in the design of “Focus”. This includes all the data from the Penygraig and District Regeneration Partnership, Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation, Objective 1 and other local and regional development plans such as the Strategic Renewal Plan and a feasibility study.
